Step 4: Experimentation

In Light for the First Time we see a limited range of pitch being used in different and interesting ways. It's now your turn to find out as many ways possible you can play ONE note on your own instrument. Focus on tone colour, articulation and extended techniques.

On your own, you need to:

  • Record your experimentation with an audio recorder

  • Post a reflection (minimum 100 words) in the forum, discussing what tone colours/articulation/extended techniques you discovered and which ones you are likely to use in for this composition

  • Find our ways to write down what you have played - some terms/symbols/notation may already exist; otherwise you may need to invent your own! Post a picture of your notation on the forum, with the symbols/notation clearly labelled with what technique they are.

All the above must be posted on the forum.

If you're not sure how to go about this - make sure you check out the video below and see me do my experimentation!
